Location and Area Information Argentina is known as the best wing-shooting destination in the world and doves are the signature species. Cordoba is synonymous with dove hunting and is considered my many to be the best dove-hunting destination. Not any more! Over the past several decades, farmers have been developing millions of acres of new agricultural land in the northwest of the country, and new colonies of eared doves are exploding in pouplation. There are already several roosts that contain over ten million doves in each roost! Our lodge and hunting is located in the area made by the borders of Tucuman, Catamarca, and Santiago del Estero provinces in the northwest part of Argentina about two hundred miles northwest of Cordoba. The fertile northwest combines a tropical climate to the west (with some mountain peaks reaching over nineteen-thousand feet) with a semi-arid agricultural region known as the "Gran Chaco" to the east. The terrain and ecosystem is so varied in fact, that just about everything can be grown in this region from lemons, oranges, grapefruit, grapes, olives, cotton, sugar, beans, peanuts, and most importantly the primary dove foods: sunflowers, sorghum, and corn. Because of its productivity, Tucuman is called the garden of the country. Apart from productivity, the area is full of heritage and tradition, and the locals are eager to show you their beautiful area and to make you feel at home. San Miguel de Tucuman is largest city in the northwest with a population of about one million. It is considered a small Buenos Aires with beautiful architecture, interesting history, bustling population, charming restaurants, and sidewalk cafes. Because of our proximity to the city, we have access to everything we need to run our business, most importantly, several flight options per day. San Fernando del Valle Catamarca and Santiago del Estero are also close by and have a couple hundred thousand residents. Both cities also offer daily flights, and our lodge is about equal distance from the three airports further adding to accessibility for hunters The northwest of Argentina also offers an interesting cultural experience and breathtaking scenery for additional days before or after your hunting trip. Enjoy the wine country of Cafayte, charming cities with interesting architecture and history, and tours to remarkable places like Quebrada de Humahuaca with small towns still inhabited by decedents of the once-mighty Inca. The ecosystem and terrain is as varied in the northwest as the shooting. Arranging a side-trip to enjoy more of the area or adding on flyfishing is easily executed by ADU and our agents and one of the reasons for choosing ADU. |
